Protecting the Line: CVRTC Begins 2026 with Purpose
On Saturday, March 21st, CVRTC kicked off the 2026 season with our Annual Club Meeting. Elections were held, officer reports were heard, and the agenda moved forward to include topics regarding work projects on both the Engine House and Station, improvements to the rail trail, brush cutting, and community events such as the much-looked-forward-to Open House and Family Day Cookout.
The discussion then turned toward our stake in the future of the Conway Branch Rail Trail. CVRTC has been involved with the maintenance and care of this corridor since 2002. That involvement is now being threatened by several stakeholders on the Conway Branch Rail Trail Committee. They are pushing to have the rails removed on a 9-mile section that CVRTC utilizes, and has utilized, for the past 24 years. We are advocating for a Cotton Valley Rail Trail–type usage. We are working closely with our partner organization, the Cotton Valley Rail Trail Committee (CVTC), and the State Bureau of Trails to ensure CVRTC is not left behind when this trail design is determined.
We very much look forward to seeing all of you out recreating on the Cotton Valley Rail Trail this summer. Please remember, it’s organizations such as CVRTC, CVTC, and the Wolfeboro Snowmobile Club (WSC) that put forth the time and effort to bring you the experience you so much enjoy. Happy trails.
